ALA 的 Library 2.0 Innovation Boot camp 在第二週的課程裡給了一個作業，題目是 “If library 2.0 can exist without librarian 2.0?” (Library 2.0 的存在是不是可以不需要 librarian 2.0? )
因為第二週的課程講的是 Librarian 2.0，所以才會有上面這個作業。Boot camp 還請了 Meredith Farkas 談 Tips for being a tech-savvy, user-centered librarian in the 21st century，你可以點 這裡 聽聽她的談話 (11分鐘)。
她提到的5個tips：
- 接受改變 (embrace changes) – 時代與讀者都在改變
- 質疑每件事 (question everything) – 是幫助讀者還是館員
- 確實了解讀者的需求 (figure out what patron’s need)
- 嘗試新技術 (play with technology)
- 有需求時才實施新的技術，不要只是因為很酷或令人興奮的原故 (Don’t buy into technolust)

回到一開始所提的那個問題，Library 2.0 的存在是不是可以不需要 librarian 2.0? Michael Stephens 引用了一位 Boot Camp 學員 Helene Blowers 的回答：
是的。原因佷簡單，因為 Web 2.0、Library 2.0 及所有的 2.0 都是以使用者為中心，而不是專業人員。... 雖然如此，如果沒有 “知識促進者 (knowledge facilitators)” and “change champions” 來幫助填補缺口，Library 2.0 是無法發展到最高峰 (flourish) 的。Librarian 2.0 便是適合這個角色，連結及協助大眾來填補他們知識的缺口。
這讓我想到上次 Stephen Abram 來台北時所談到的，”雖然 Google、Microsoft 等公司都想要建立線上圖書館，但唯有圖書館員存在的地方才算是真正的圖書館”。由此可見，圖書館員在 Library 2.0 中仍能扮演一定的角色。如何把自己提升至 Librarian 2.0，不妨聽聽/看看本文前面的文章或 podcast。
